The skills rolls are performed normally, with no autofail or autosuccess on rolls of 1 or 20. Situational modifiers are used as the book indicates, and the gamemaster may choose to award points for smooveness on part of the player, his character’s stated actions and the way the player states them.
No negative modifiers will be assigned to non-smoove players who attempt to hamhand their way through social situations…a character will not be penalized for a player’s lack of Smoove.
Effectively by roleplaying your character well or working with a great idea or superior tactic you can get a bonus of up to +4 on a nonphysically based skill. You can also receive a bonus of up to +2 on a physical skill for pantomiming or gutsiness.
